I’ve been feeling physically weak for the past f I’ve been feeling physically weak for the past few days, and because of this, it’s kind of hard to focus on all the things I need to get done. My typical inclination is to fix things so I can get back on schedule. But what if weakness can glorify God more than our strength can?
⁣
This morning I read 2 Corinthians 12:9 (CSB):
⁣
𝘔𝘺 𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘦 𝘪𝘴 𝘴𝘶𝘧𝘧𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘺𝘰𝘶, 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘮𝘺 𝘱𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘳 𝘪𝘴 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘧𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘪𝘯 𝘸𝘦𝘢𝘬𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴.
⁣
Then I felt the Lord remind me of Psalm 8. I read that too because when things feel really hard it’s important to remember the greatness of God. Don’t we all need a perspective shift every now and then?
⁣
But as I continued through Psalm 8, I noticed that same theme of God using weakness to show his strength.
⁣
𝘍𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘶𝘵𝘩𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘪𝘯𝘧𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘯𝘶𝘳𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘣𝘢𝘣𝘪𝘦𝘴, 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘩𝘦𝘥 𝘢 𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘨𝘩𝘰𝘭𝘥 𝘰𝘯 𝘢𝘤𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘢𝘥𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘰𝘳𝘥𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘪𝘭𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘮𝘺 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘢𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘳. — 𝘗𝘴𝘢𝘭𝘮 ‭𝟾:𝟸‬ ‭𝘊𝘚𝘉‬‬
⁣
Babies and infants aren’t considered to be the strongest in society and yet, the Psalmist prophetically declared that God uses even them to silence the enemy and proclaim his greatness. That gives me chills.
⁣
See the thing is, God doesn’t work the way we do. We often boast in our strength and achievements. We hide our weaknesses. We think that God will be glorified through us when we have everything together. But this isn’t exactly the case. When we are weak and have absolutely nothing to offer, God’s strength shines through in our lives.
⁣
Our weakness reminds us that God is God and we are not. His name will be glorified — even when we are weak.
⁣
So, what does this all mean for us? Don’t despise your weak moments. Don’t despise trials and hardship. Present everything to the Lord (even your weakness) and trust that he will use it for his glory as he always does.

Yesterday, I started reading Women of the Word by Yesterday, I started reading Women of the Word by (@jenwilkin) Jen Wilkin. In one of the chapters, she says this:

The heart cannot love what the mind does not know.

Isn’t that so true? Yet, many of us claim to love God but we rarely pick up his word. Maybe you’ve had wonderful experiences with God at Christian conferences and church services. But can you say that you really know him?

It’s one thing to know about someone. It’s another thing to know them intimately.

God has revealed himself to us through his word and by the help of the Holy Spirit, we can grasp the truths he wants us to know.

He’s calling us beyond the surface and into the deep.

How do we get here? By feasting on his word DAILY.

Yep, even when the text seems dense, even when we feel conviction instead of encouragement, and even when we’d rather be doing something else.

David wasn’t joking when he said God’s word was a lamp to his feet and a light to his path.

If you’re a Christian and you’re not diving into the word regularly, you’re missing out on something really good. We need the word to guide us to the truth about God.

So maybe you’re reading this and you know it applies to you. Well, what should you do? Just start.

It won’t be easy but it will be worth it. You have the Holy Spirit. He is your teacher. And you have a ton of resources available to help you. (Hint: if you click the link in my bio, you’ll end up finding tons of resources on my blog to help as you dive into the word).

Are you committed to getting in the word this year? Let me know!

I have no words for the darkness on display at our I have no words for the darkness on display at our nation’s capital. I truly have no words.

But, as I was praying tonight, these verses came to mind:

You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. Matthew 5:14-16 ESV

Yes, there is a lot of darkness but there’s even more light. May the true Church stand up. May true believers take their place.

May our lamps never grow dim but may we shine brightly in a dark and desolate world.

Be encouraged and do not be dismayed. God’s light will always outshine the darkness.

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. John 1:5 ESV

Also know this — scripture tells us that the fervent prayer of the righteous accomplishes much (James 5:16).

Notice that it didn’t say the eloquent or perfect prayer of the righteous. If the only prayer you have to offer up right now are tears at the feet of Jesus, then offer them. God moves when the righteous cry out to him.

Again, may our lights never go dim, may our prayers never cease, and may our hearts keep believing in the hope that Christ has brought into the world.

God has been speaking to me about new beginnings f God has been speaking to me about new beginnings for over a year now. I’ve had countless symbolic dreams and confirmations but for so long nothing new seemed to be happening in my life.
⁣
Well, it’s been over a year now since God first laid the idea of new beginnings on my heart — and now it finally makes sense.
⁣
I’m really happy to share that I’ve followed God’s leading to pursue a Master’s Degree in Biblical Studies at Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA! I’m super passionate about helping women to embrace God’s word as a necessary and vital part of their every day lives and I know that this degree will lead to more opportunities to do just that.
⁣
There’s so much that led up to this decision and I look forward to sharing more about my journey soon.
⁣
Even though this year was painful and filled with a lot of loss, God used it to bring something brand new to pass in my life. I’m forever grateful for that.
⁣
Before you go, tell me how God has shown up in your life this year! 👇🏾

I'm assuming you know about this prophetic passage I'm assuming you know about this prophetic passage from the book of Isaiah about the birth of Jesus. We see it quoted on Christmas cards and ornaments, and it's often a focal point of many Christmas sermons. We learn a lot about Jesus from this verse. He is our Wonderful Counselor, he is the Mighty God, he's the Everlasting Father, and he is the Prince of Peace.
⁣
All the titles given to Jesus hold significant weight but the one that stands out to me most is Prince of Peace.
⁣
If I've learned anything this year, it's that peace is a gift from God that we must hold onto. We cannot find our peace in material things, our significant other, our friends, our family, our career, or even our economic status.
⁣
When Jesus was about to leave his disciples, he told them this:
⁣
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. John 14:27 ESV
⁣
He knew that they would be faced with many trials after he left. He knew that their world would be rocked and shaken. Like all of us humans, they would tempted to find their peace in the things of this world. So, he told them: I'm giving you my peace as a gift. It's nothing like the world gives. It's uniquely from the Father.
⁣
Trouble will come our way. We've experienced a lot of it this year, and we will continue to experience it until Jesus returns. But, Jesus' peace is enough to sustain us through even the most troubling times.
⁣
As you celebrate Christmas this weekend, I want you to take some time and reflect on what it means for Jesus to be your Prince of Peace.
⁣
Have you left room for him to be your source of peace, or are you trying to get it from another source? If you're lacking peace, simply ask him to fill you with his peace right now. Trust me, he'll do it.

A lot of people think that Jesus came to abolish t A lot of people think that Jesus came to abolish the law but what he really did was show us the true heart of God behind it.
⁣
See, even if we could keep the law perfectly — and we can’t — we’d still fail because our hearts are desperately sick. Our motives and our intentions are wrong and we need to be transformed from the inside out. Maybe you’ve never stolen something but you lust after what is not yours. You’ve probably never murdered but perhaps your heart is filled with hate. Maybe you’re never boastful in public and everyone marvels at your humility but inside your heart is filled with pride.
⁣
The scribes and Pharisees were amazing at keeping the law — or so it seemed. But Jesus called them out constantly because while they could fool most people, they couldn’t fool him. He saw the depths of their hearts and this is how he described it:
⁣
Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs, which outwardly appear beautiful, but within are full of dead people’s bones and all uncleanness. Matthew 23:27 ESV
⁣
Proverbs 16:2 tells us that a person’s ways seem right to him but the Lord weighs the motives. Hebrews 4:12-13 tells us that the word of God is powerful enough to discern our thoughts and intentions of our heart.
⁣
God isn’t just looking at our actions, he’s looking at our hearts.
⁣
And the only cure for the sinful condition of our hearts is Jesus. Jesus is the only one who can transform our hearts filled with lust, hate, and pride.
⁣
But as long as we think our own “righteousness” is enough, we’ll never realize our need for a Savior. We’ll keep working and toiling, thinking that we’re right with God when we’re really not. Checking off a list of rules isn’t enough. Our hearts need changing.
⁣
I pray that God would open our eyes to see the true condition of our hearts. I pray that we would submit to him so that he can do the work of transforming us.
